Introducing Stuart in Steerage
Some of the best friendships blossom in the most unexpected places. For me, it happened on a Viking river cruise in April 2025, when I crossed paths with Stuart—a 71-year-old from the UK with a sharp wit, a gentle heart, and a lifelong love of history. I latched on to Stuart and his dear wife, Deb, for the rest of the trip.

I had hoped to meet someone from the United Kingdom on that trip to discuss the royal family, history, and their perspective on the world. What I didn’t expect was to find a friend whose stories, laughter, and thoughtful conversations would linger long after we both returned home.
From the moment Stuart cautiously answered my bold question about the royals (and then noticed me taking notes!), to our hours of sharing thoughts on politics, religion, and life itself, I knew this was a voice others needed to hear. There’s a warmth and honesty about Stuart that draws people in—he’s funny, perceptive, and unafraid to wade into the deep topics most shy away from.
That’s how Stuart in Steerage was born. It’s more than just a video series—it’s a celebration of unexpected friendship, a bridge between countries, and an invitation to listen, laugh, and maybe see things a little differently.
