In June of 2009, Charlie passed all of his obedience tests and is now a Certified Therapy Dog through Therapy Dogs International. He also received the AKC Canine Good Citizen Award.
Charlie's first job was with the Stanislaus County Library's "Read to the Dog" program. Children could sign up for a 20 minute reading session with Charlie. This program encourages young children and builds confidence in their skills by reading to the dogs. Charlie was at the main branch of the library on Thursday afternoons through the month of November. At this time the program is on hold. Hopefully, it will resume in the Spring of 2010.
Charlie is now a part of the CarePals Program at Optimal Hospice in Modesto. Our first volunteer assignment is with a Children's Grief Support Group.
Charlie will be working towards a certification with the Delta Society in the Spring of 2010.
This short video tells the story of 18 year old Therapy Dog, Baxter. This gives you a glimpse of the work these teams are doing to bring joy into the lives of the suffering. We are honored to be a part of this program.
